From Freshman to Future Innovator: Adithya Bellamkonda's Journey in Computer Science at UAH /science/departments/computer-science/news/19340-from-freshman-to-future-innovator-adithya-bellamkondas-journey-in-computer-science-at-uah /science/departments/computer-science/news/19340-from-freshman-to-future-innovator-adithya-bellamkondas-journey-in-computer-science-at-uah

Adithya Bellamkonda is a Computer Science major in the College of Science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The below blog post, written by Adithya in his own words, reflects his experience as a freshman at UAH.

Choosing to pursue a degree in Computer Science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) has been one of the most rewarding decisions of my academic career. As a Freshman in the College of Science, my experience has been shaped by rigorous coursework, hands-on learning opportunities, and an environment that fosters innovation and collaboration.

From the very first semester, I was immersed in a curriculum and other personal goals that challenged me to think critically and solve complex problems. Courses like Data Structures and Algorithms, Probability and Statistics in Computer Science, and Calculus have provided me with a strong foundation in computational thinking and mathematical analysis.

The professors at UAH are not only knowledgeable but also deeply invested in student success. They encourage inquiry and are always willing to provide guidance, whether during office hours or through research opportunities. One of the most exciting aspects of my time at UAH so far has been engaging in research and projects that bridge theory and application.

Beyond academics, UAH offers a thriving student community with numerous organizations and clubs. I am actively serving as the Vice President for the Data Science and AI Club, where I collaborate with peers on machine learning projects and gain insights from industry professionals. Additionally, I have the privilege of serving as a College of Science Ambassador, where I engage with prospective students, help organize events, and promote the incredible opportunities available within the College of Science. This role has allowed me to develop leadership skills while giving back to the UAH community.

UAH has provided me with invaluable professional development opportunities. Through internships, hackathons, and networking events, I have been able to refine my technical and soft skills. My long-term goal is to work in the intersection of AI, machine learning, and quantitative finance, ultimately pursuing a master鈥檚 in Financial Engineering through the company I work for post-graduation. If you're considering joining the UAH College of Science, I encourage you to take advantage of every opportunity available. The journey is challenging, but the rewards are immense!
