Summer Research Opportunities

• Honors Capstone Research Summer Program

• The Research or Creative Experience for Undergraduates (RCEU) Summer Program

• The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). REU projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing research programs or in research projects specifically designed for the REU program. Undergraduate student participants in either REU Sites or REU Supplements must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or permanent residents of the U.S. Students do not apply to NSF to participate in REU activities; rather, they apply directly to REU Sites or to NSF-funded investigators who receive REU Supplements.

• International Space Weather Camp

  The International Space Weather Camp (ISWC) is an opportunity to learn about space physics in the context of meeting a very practical need -- to understand the influence of the Sun on the space and upper atmosphere of the Earth and its related impact on the technological systems and needs of modern society.

        The HudsonAlpha BioTrain Internship program offers students the opportunity to connect classwork with            real鈥恮orld job experience and gain skills and knowledge to prepare them for careers in biotechnology and          related fields.

        Each summer hundreds of undergraduates step into some of the world鈥檚 premier research universities and            institutions to participate in the Amgen Scholars Program. Students conduct hands-on research in the lab            alongside top faculty, participate in seminars and networking events, and take part in symposia with their            peers and leading scientists.

Year-round Research Opportunities

  NASA internships are educational, hands-on traineeships that provide unique NASA-related research and operational experiences for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students as well as educators. These internships integrate participants with career professionals and emphasize mentor-directed, degree-related, real-world task completion.

• These opportunities include summer programs and scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students, post-doctoral fellowships, and special programs for early career researchers, faculty members, and senior scientists. Some of these programs occur only at NASA centers, but others are designed to support students or scientists at universities.

Publication & Presentation Opportunities

• The mission of the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) is to promote undergraduate research scholarship and creative activity done in partnership with faculty or other mentors as a vital component of higher education. Search "NCUR" on the main CUR website for latest details.

• Perpetua: The UAH Journal of Undergraduate Research

  Perpetua is UAH's interdisciplinary peer-reviewed undergraduate research journal devoted to publishing new and original research from undergraduate researchers at UAH. We are a registered student organization and our publication is run by undergraduate students with the assistance of our faculty advisors. The Perpetua journal is published twice per year and features research from all colleges and departments at UAH.

• In the spring of every year, the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) hosts its annual undergraduate poster session on Capitol Hill. There is an evening poster session and reception where students have the opportunity to speak directly to members of Congress and demonstrate how they have been impacted by these programs. The Call for Abstracts opens in September and closes in November. Search "CUR Posters on the Hill" on the main CUR website for the latest information.
